Matching Facility
Using matching facility, where the CDF office partnered with Rural Electrification Authority to enabled coverage of many more areas. 3 million shiilings was forwarded to REA by the MP via the CDF office. REA matched the 3 million shilling with 3 million all adding up to 6 million. The 6 million was used to fund smaller projects where a lot of impact was felt. This include:
1.Embakasi Girls in Athi river south
2.Kalunga Dispensary
3.Kasuitu village
4. Installation of transformers under existing high voltage lines.
Those who were within 600 meters from the transformers being placed in the above projects, were asked to apply to KPLC, got quotations and paid and got connected.
Those outside the 600 meter radius from transformers were asked to form Umeme Pamoja group schemes. Once they paid 10% of the amounts quoted, they submitted proposals to the CDF office which consider what funds to give them to enable the projects to be constructed.
The MPs office partnering with Kenya Power which was ready to use its funds to add more transformers to the existing network as well as do network extensions to facilities closer this network. This facility called Line maximisation and mostly target areas where people have already formed Umeme Pamoja group schemes.
